Gigi is a writer and founder of The Kite Zine, a storytelling and reentry program for youth and adults incarcerated in New York City. The program and her writing draw from her experiences of coming of age in youth institutions from East St. Louis through Chicago, Illinois. Because “stories move people like no statistic can” her aim is to inspire students to write their own narratives so that they can see the change within themselves while seeking to reshape the carceral state and the disadvantages that predicate one’s life in the injustice system.
She holds an MFA from Columbia University and currently seeking agency for her memoir about coming of age in youth institutions which doubles as a confessional about the events that led to her reaching inside a prison to find stability, community, and a place to call home.
